The Hunger Games are a yearly competition where two teenage representatives from each section are chosen by lottery. The televised games are broadcast across Panem and serve as entertainment and terrible retaliation for a previous uprising. While the people of Panem must observe, the 24 competitors are obliged to eliminate their rivals. Katniss, 16, offers to step in for her younger sister, Prim. The latter has been chosen to represent District 12 as its female delegate. She and Peeta are up against bigger, stronger competitors, some of whom have spent their entire lives training for this.

Famous quotes:

Peeta Mellark: “No. No, not really.”

Caesar Flickerman: “No? I don’t believe it for a second. Look at that face. Handsome man like you. Peeta… tell me.”

  • When Donald Sutherland accidentally came across the script and read it, he pushed to play President Snow because it reminded him of Stanley Kubrick’s Paths of Glory (1957). He landed the part after writing Gary Ross a letter outlining his case for casting him.
  • Josh Hutcherson, a natural brunette, colored his hair blonde for his part. In contrast, both natural blondes, Liam Hemsworth and Jennifer Lawrence, darkened their hair brown for their roles in the movie.

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby – US Box Office: USD$148,213,377

Director: Adam McKay

Main Plot: This Will Ferrell comedy contains satire, parody, toilet humor, twisted respect for the Nascar lifestyle, and a European acceptance of some unpleasant truths about the American Dream. It is essentially an ethics lecture about the Bush Administration. If you’re not number one, you’re last, according to fictional NASCAR racing driver Ricky Bobby, who lives by the maxim that “If you’re not last, you’re last.” This philosophy causes issues with his best friend and co-racer (Cal Naughton, Jr., played by the wickedly talented John C. Reilly). They should always come in second to maintain his incredible bond with Ricky. But Ricky retaliated because he had to deal with the very gay French racer Jean Girard. To attempt to remove him from office (while beating Ricky Bobby on the track, Girard reads L’Etranger). Cal, a childhood friend, betrayed him by ending his marriage and moving into his house. Most importantly, Ricky’s inability to comprehend the root of his relationship issues.

Famous quotes:

Jean Girard: “Whoa! Get down, you little pancake.”

Ricky Bobby: “Someone might as well get me a beer while I’m down here.”

Jean Girard: “But you have forced me to do this. You are now mocking me and making me look ridiculous. Just say, “I love crepes.”

Cal Naughton, Jr.: “You know, just to put this in there, I had a whole mess of crepes this morning. They’re just like pancakes, maybe even better.”

Ricky Bobby: “Wait, are they really thin pancakes?”

Fun Facts about Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby:

  • Six words: Will Ferrell, a NASCAR driver, was how producers introduced the movie to studios.
  • Lee Ferrell, the father of Will Ferrell, wrote and performed the song “Goodbye Cowboy,” which appears in the movie.
  • In the brunch scene at Jean Girard’s (Sacha Baron Cohen’s) home, the young woman who portrays the artist is the creator of that image. After she agreed to complete the painting, she was asked whether she would take on the artist’s role in the movie.
  • A month before the DVD release, the first 400,000 PlayStation 3 consoles came with a Blu-ray copy of this film.
  • On the DVD edition, the audio commentary is essentially one continuous improvisation of mostly absurd observations.

Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger and co-pilot Jeff Skiles had to decide whether to land the damaged Airbus A320 at LaGuardia Airport or Teterboro just three minutes into the flight, at the height of about 853 meters. Instead, they made an emergency landing attempt on the icy Hudson River, saving the lives of all 175 passengers and crew members. Sully was heralded as a hero, but the National Transportation Safety Board disagreed, believing that Sully might have landed differently based on sophisticated computer simulations. Was Sully a hero, or was he just a scapegoat?

Famous quotes:

Ben Edwards: “Multiple airports, runways, two successful landings, we are simply mimicking what the computer already told us.”

Charles Porter: “Now, a lot of toes were stepped on in order to set this up for today, and frankly… I really don’t know what you gentlemen plan to gain by it.”

Chesley ‘Sully’ Sullenberger: “Can we get serious now?”

Charles Porter: “Captain?”

Chesley ‘Sully’ Sullenberger: “We’ve all heard about the computer simulations, and now we are watching actual sims, but I can’t quite believe you still have not taken into account the human factor.”

  • Before, Tom Hanks spent a half-day with Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger at his home in the Bay Area. Sullenberger expressed his admiration for Hanks’ skill in catching him.

After Albert declines, the old guy provides Celie with an alternative, and he then drives Celie to his plantation. She addresses him as “Mister” there, serves as his housekeeper, and puts up with his physical abuse. Celie recognized her seven-month-old daughter Olivia in the town in the spring of 1910.
