Crystal Gold Mine (Kellogg)

Crystal Gold Mine (Kellogg), Idaho, USA
“Crystal Gold Mine (Kellogg) is one of the best places to go in Idaho”

Everyone likes gold, not just the gold diggers! For others, the quest is only for knowledge.

The Crystal Gold Mine in Kellogg, Idaho, was one of the earliest hard rock mines in the Silver Valley.

In fact, Crystal Gold Mine is perhaps the only authentic 1880s underground gold mine tour in the Northwest.

Once inside, you’ll get a sense of how the mine was constructed by its original miners.

A fascinating aspect of this mining site is that the miners excavate everything by candlelight and with their bare hands.

When the abandoned mine was uncovered in 1991, it was recovered in 1996. In 2001, it was opened as a historical tourist attraction.

The tour guide tells how they used “Single Jacks,” “Double Jacks,” and “Hand Steels” to drill, how they mapped the quartz vein using 1880 methods and tested the vein for gold.

You’ll also get to see the smithsonite stalactites of varying hues that decorate the walls of this cave.

Further investigation revealed that the quartz vein still contained gold and silver wire.

Check out this tourist attraction to get a firsthand look at hard-rock mining in action!

“Gilmore Ghost Town (Leadore) is one of the best places to go in Idaho”

Interested in a ghost town experience in Idaho? Gilmore Ghost Town was a silver mining town that was abandoned.

Gilmore is more than simply a ghost town with a history of abandonment; it is one among the numerous communities that rose and fell during the American mining boom.

In 2009, there was some violence and police involvement in the town.
According to reports, the state police officers were out on patrol in the town when they were suddenly attacked by gunshots.

They fled, abandoning their snowmobiles in the process, as a gunfight broke out and cops reported being shot at.

In the absence of any evidence, the story has remained a rumor among locals.

Moreover, the town’s collapse was precipitated in part by the consequences of the Great Depression and the explosion’s aftermath.

After being restored in 2010, eight log and frame constructions are currently remaining.

Gilmore Ghost Town is a fun place to live if you’re looking for a unique ghost adventure.

A tourist attraction created as a sweet gesture of Mr. Thomas Davis as a memorial to his beloved wife, Julia.

Julia Davis Park, Boise’s oldest park, was made possible by a generous donation of 43 acres of property in 1907 and quickly came to fame as a major tourist attraction in the state’s capital.

Initially known as the “Ribbon of Jewels,” a collection of parks honoring influential local ladies Ann Morrison and Esther Simplot.

“Lochsa Historical Ranger Station Museum (Kooskia) is one of the best places to go in Idaho”

Why not stop by and experience a trip through time?

The Lochsa Historical Ranger Station is run to retain the nostalgic feel of a functional ranger district from the 1920s.

Fire lookouts, smoke chaser cottages, and other remote Forest Service facilities were linked together by pack paths and telephone lines from the historic Lochsa Ranger Station.

For more than a century, a ranger station on the Lochsa River has served as the museum of the Lochsa Historical Ranger Station Museum.

During the 1976 Bicentennial celebrations, the station was formally dedicated as an interpretative site.

Even more so, it has been included in the National Register of Historic Places.

Hummingbirds, magnificent trees, and fruit that may not be edible make up the wildlife.

Lastly, there are drinking fountains, restrooms, and parking for four RVs at this convenient rest stop.

The Lochsa Historical Ranger Station Museum has a lot to offer visitors. It’s a must-see for tourists!

Map Rock Petroglyphs Historic District (Nampa)

Map Rock Petroglyphs Historic District (Nampa), Idaho, USA
“Map Rock Petroglyphs Historic District (Nampa) is one of the best places to go  in Idaho”

The only way a rock can communicate is through being carved, as it cannot do so itself.

Carved into stone, not painted, petroglyphs depict ancient civilizations.

Historic District Map Rock Petroglyphs was discovered in 1872. It is a large eight-acre area with several rocks with elaborate designs like zig-zag lines and circles.

According to legend, these engravings were produced by Native Americans.

Carvings like these might have served as a reference point for travelers and hunters. They would have had to study the map to get about the area.

It’s conceivable, though, that these symbols portray the Snake River Valley and represent the earliest maps ever discovered.

If you’d instead take in the region’s natural beauty, you may go hiking, birding, or sightseeing.

You’ve never seen anything like this before, and you may never see it again.

Hundreds more rock petroglyphs and pictographs may be discovered in the boulder fields along the Snake and Salmon rivers, even though Map Rock is the most recognized.

If you’re on your way to Melba, Idaho, make sure to stop by!

While fishing, there are even large boulders that you may sit on for support. There is no need for a boat, though, since you may fish directly from the lake.

There are limitations on how many fish you can catch, where you may catch them, and what species you can capture. Still, the waterways are accessible all year round.

If you’re going to bring an RV, this is the ideal location.

Beautiful scenery and amazing views of rivers, woods, and mountains will captivate you and make you not want to go.

There are also picnic tables and camping spots available.

Consider taking a tour of Old Idaho Penitentiary, which served as the state penitentiary for more than a century.

It is one of only four territorial jails still open to the public, constructed in 1870.
