Chauvin Sculpture Garden & Art

Cartoonish appearances aren’t always amusing; they might surprise and even scare you!

What a weird location! Chauvin Sculpture Garden & Art is located in Chauvin, Louisiana, and features the work of Kenny Hill.

Chauvin Sculpture Garden & Art was founded in the early 1990s, and it reflects Hill’s diverse artistic sensibility and odd religious system.

Kenny Hill, a bricklayer, and self-taught artist created life-sized sculptures from concrete and brick. It took Hill a decade to produce 100 different religious sculptures.

It’s no coincidence that Hill appears in so many of the paintings. He’s seen carrying Christ’s cross, dashing on horseback, with a man with a beard and long hair as his heart beats wildly.

For many years, Hill opposed tourists and photographers visiting the location. Still, a spiritual crisis in the early 2000s forced him to quit the garden and his work.

Chauvin Sculpture Garden & Art was eventually restored by the Kohler Foundation and is now under the management of Nicholls State University.

Now a public park, it can be visited by anybody who so desires.

Have you ever wondered how the sculptures seem in real life? If you’re ever in Louisiana, don’t forget to stop by Chauvin Sculpture Garden & Art.
