Sanpete County’s Spring City is a small town with some of Utah’s best-preserved examples of the state’s early pioneer buildings.

Any traveler passing through Utah should stop at Springtown to view Zion National Park, a must-see attraction.

Celebrations and events in this town, such as the creation of huge Jell-O sculptures, an Elvis Extravaganza, art shows, and much more, are taken very seriously.

Springtown was placed on the National Register of Historic Places because Springtown locals strive hard to maintain the historical significance of their properties.

Many of these structures are located within a few hundred feet of the town’s main road, including some urban barns and other agricultural and animal structures. However, there was a steady fall in Spring City’s population over the next several decades due to poor public transit and the expansion of other adjacent municipalities’ economies.

Rather than being demolished to make way for more, larger, and newer construction, most of the neighborhood’s older homes left the place as it is.

Nevertheless, tourists still flock to the town, located off the usual route.

Some old residences are now stores, art studios, and bed and breakfast inns, among other uses.

This town may be small, but it is jam-packed with historical artifacts worth seeing if you enjoy traveling back in time.

Check out the This Is The Place Monument!

In 1947, as part of the state’s centennial celebrations, the monument was dedicated.

This Is The Place Monument is named after Brigham Young’s famous exclamation upon arriving in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Before they reached Salt Lake City, Brigham Young’s Latter-day Saints followers had walked and hiked 1,300 miles with him over Emigration Canyon.

When he saw the precise valley where they had emerged in a vision, Young instantly noted where they had been.

In front of the monument, an obelisk commemorates the significance of this moment in time.

On one side of the obelisk, beneath a stylized bison or buffalo skull, is inscribed, “This Is the Place: Brigham Young. July 24, 1847.”

The This Is The Place Monument was completed in 1947, precisely 100 years after the first residents of Salt Lake City moved there.
