In addition, he claims that exorcisms are fake but that the outcomes are positive for the believers because they think it is real. Cotton sees the opportunity to show the documentary crew what he has just said. When he is asked by the farmer Louis Sweetzer to perform an exorcism on his daughter Nell. They arrive in Ivanwood and are met with hostility by Caleb, Louis’s son. They soon discover that the dysfunctional Sweetzer family is dealing with serious issues after Cotton performs the exorcism on Nell, exposing his tricks to the camera.
