Wisconsin Humane Society

The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is a private, non-profit organization to improve the lives of individuals who care about animals and the animals themselves. The Wisconsin Humane Society was established in 1879 and has spent more than 140 years rescuing animals.

WHS runs animal shelters in Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Door, and Brown counties, a West Allis spay/neuter clinic, and a Milwaukee Wildlife Hospital. Each year, WHS provides care for 40,000 animals and their families. They are not a part of any national umbrella group and do not get any financing from the general government.

As Wisconsin’s largest animal shelter, WHS provides the following specialized services: a thorough adoption program, reasonably priced spay/neuter services, a pet food bank, youth programming, community outreach services, foster care for animals involved in domestic violence situations, and dog training courses.

Off the Chain MKE

Two tenacious bully protectors and activists established Off the Chain MKE in 2017. They had to take action after observing many dogs in the neighborhood being passed over for adoption or rescue because of their health, behavior, or the stigma associated with pit-bull-type dogs. 

The Executive Director currently manages this 501c3 rescue. Their board of directors will expand in the few months to come.

We do not have a “shelter” or intake facility because we are a foster-based rescue. Yes, every dog that comes into this rescue is placed in foster care.

Most dogs they adopt from the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Commission (MADACC) are pit bull-type canines. Many dogs entering their organization are ill, malnourished, shut down, and anxious with various triggers.

To rescue and rehabilitate these pups, they must rely on the patient, sympathetic, and caring individuals of our community who are willing to foster them.

Almost Home Cat Rescue MKE

Early in 2021, volunteers created the non-profit 501(c)(3) Almost Home Cat Rescue MKE organization. They aim to provide a safe refuge for every cat in their care until their forever home is found.

Compassion for all creatures, both human and animal. Providing a safe refuge for any cats and kittens that have been misplaced, abandoned, abused, neglected, unloved, socially awkward, or sick until they may be adopted.

To offer animal control and care services that safeguard Milwaukee County residents’ health, public safety, and welfare. Provide effective and affordable animal control services by actively enforcing Wisconsin State Statutes about animal welfare for the 19 member communities of Milwaukee County.

JRs Pups N Stuff

JR’s Pups-N-Stuff Inc. was founded to rescue animals in danger of losing their lives. They arrived where they are now thanks to that idea.

They’ve had a lot of successful outcomes, and they’ll keep giving all future rescue pets exceptional homes. They don’t make distinctions.

They don’t deliberately rescue dogs based on their breed or age. They save the lives of animals that are in need.

They might be subject to euthanasia for a variety of reasons. This is mostly a result of physical or spatial constraints.

Foster parents were the foundation of their rescue. Life’s greatest pleasures have been revealed to them via progress. The people that joined us are amazing, friendly, and compassionate.

Happy Endings No Kill Cat Shelter

Happy Endings is a non-profit 501(c)(3) no-kill organization that has been rescuing lives since 1994 and is managed entirely by volunteers. Happy Endings’ goal is to place unwanted, mistreated, abandoned, or feral animals are given to us or picked up off the street in long-term homes.

Every year, they find loving homes forever for over 200 cats. More than 90% of the cats taken in are unvaccinated, unspayed, or unneutered. Over $80,000 is spent on medical costs annually.

They started operating as a no-kill cat rescue center in September 2004. All gifts are tax-deductible because they are a 501(c)3.

Second Hand Purrs is a no-kill cat sanctuary that is entirely staffed by volunteers and funded by donations. To aid the cats and kittens in our care, they earn money via various fundraisers, adoption fees, sponsorship fees, and other initiatives.

To give Golden Retrievers who have lost their homes for whatever reason a secure and happy existence, WAAGR relies on the generosity of volunteers. Their volunteers and members take the necessary steps to assist these loving creatures find the ideal home.

They think the secret to successful adoptions into wonderful permanent homes is education and continuing to be active in our communities. WAAGR aims to give displaced Golden Retrievers and Golden Retriever hybrids new lives.

To promote, support, and help grow partnerships between dogs and veterans that are mutually beneficial. They know that various treatments, including counseling, medicine, complementary therapies like meditation and yoga, and even extreme sports like scuba diving, benefit combat veterans experiencing physical or psychological wounds from the conflict.

With veterans, pets, particularly dogs, may be helpful. Veterans’ demands for friendship, protection, and a sense of serenity are met in part by dogs. Their goal is to foster and support the growth of partnerships between veterans and dogs that benefit both parties.

Their goal is to help veterans train their own dogs to be service animals and assistance animals for other veterans.
