Main Plot: Duff Anderson, a father of a young boy who stayed with a nanny and was born in Birmingham, relocates to a tiny village to work on the train. To the dismay of her preacher father, he meets Josie and finds himself drawn to her. Despite this, they do get married, move to their own home, and find work in a mill. He makes a choice not to relocate his son with them. Whenever the Mill Foreman learns that Duff is seeking to organize the workers, problems emerge, and Duff is forced to resign and seek employment elsewhere. He accepts a job at a yard because he finds it difficult to get a $2.50 per day job picking cotton or even working as a waiter. He loses his career after becoming furious with a customer who made fun of him and Josie. He becomes abusive and flees, possibly never returning because he is unemployed and is unable to sustain his wife and son.

Main Plot: The paper money and coins in circulation in 1964 were distinct from those in circulation now. During the early pool hall scene, Ivan may be seen carrying an old copy of a dollar bill. The back is the same today; however, the front included the number “1” instead of the seal used today to indicate where it was produced. Additionally, when he tabs out now and gets his money (change for a dollar for a bar tab is comical in its own right compared to now), you can tell by the sound that his coins are silver, as was usual in 1964. This is because they often used silver coins during that period.

Main Plot: Babs Johnson, played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, was once a top police officer in Philadelphia until he became entangled in a web of drug abuse and corruption. Ultimately led to an act so egregious that we learn about it only through a gradually growing flashback that runs throughout the main part of the movie—in black-and-white, no less. About a year later, a sober Babs decides to relocate to Atlantic City and start a new job as a detective for the local police department in the hopes of reuniting with his ex-wife Savannah (Heather Graham) and their younger daughter Amy (Celeste O’Connor). He underestimates how challenging it will be to pull this off. Amy understandably dislikes that her dad abandoned her for such a prolonged period and now hopes to win her favor by giving her gifts like a cone of ice cream or a boat trip. Still enraged with her boyfriend, Savannah has a new romantic interest in Surfing Girl (Reyna de Courcy), a younger woman who aspires to leave Garden State and move to California to start her surf store.

Main Plot: An individual who doesn’t believe in marriage institutions will encounter inner turmoil once confronted with the decision whether or not to love a woman with who he is in love or even to live with such a woman whose philosophy is similar to his own. Both of these options give the individual the opportunity to marry the woman with whom he is in love. This is because he will be clueless about how to behave in either scenario. It was the culmination of a sequence of events that occurred in the life of his friends that ultimately enlightened him on what was truly important in his own life and supported him in prioritizing the areas of that life he had been neglecting.

The law enforcement officer is accused of being involved in the drug dealer’s brother’s murder. It is believed that the law enforcement officer was involved in the murder of the drug dealer’s brother. Following the discovery of the drugs in the low dealer’s brother’s body, the police officer is questioned as a potential suspect in the homicide investigation. Unidentified assailants were responsible for the slaying of the drug dealer’s brother.
