Almost Home Rescue

An all-breed canine rescue organization called Almost Home Rescue started operating in 2005. They are a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization committed to rescuing stray, abandoned, and surrendered dogs and finding them loving, permanent homes. 

To carry out their mission of rescuing for life, any rescued dogs who cannot remain with their adopted family must be returned to Almost Home Rescue. Most dogs at A.H.R. come from overcrowded shelters in Louisiana, Mississippi, and North Carolina. However, they occasionally accept animals from neighborhood shelters that call for rescue.

Embrace A Vet is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2012. It is now known as Maine Paws for Veterans. 

Before focusing on service dog training for veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress, Joy Johnson, the founder, first concentrated on retreats for soldiers and spouses. Maine Paws for Veterans was founded in 2021 to train service dogs and serve veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (P.T.S.D.) connected to their time in the military. 

Since 2012, the organization has graduated 130 veteran and service dog teams. Through Maine Paws, veterans who have P.T.S.D. due to their military service can receive training and support.
