Which festival in McDonough is the one that the whole town turns out for?

The Geranium Festival. The city’s event calendar puts it in May and it has been the town’s opening act on the season for years. Expect geranium-themed arts and crafts, live music and food vendors right across the square. The Cotton Pickin’ Fair in November is the other one, with the same crafts and a cooler week for walking. May for the flowers, November for the weather.

Which park in McDonough carries the trail that people actually walk?

Heritage Park. Its Trail of Tears runs about a mile through woods hung with colored ribbons, and the park’s own interpretation ties those ribbons to the Cherokee removal of the 1830s. The same park holds the Veterans Museum, a walking trail through the woods and a dog park. Panola Mountain State Park is the harder walk if you want rock underfoot.
