Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History

American educator Lucy Craft Laney opened Augusta’s first school for black boys and girls in 1883.
Everyone should be aware of Mrs. Craft-Laney’s contributions to Augustan history.
That Lucy Craft Laney cared so much about children’s education and how she might assist them in getting off to a good start was heartwarming to hear.
Many people were impressed by the work she conducted in the community. The residents of Augusta value her much.
When she died, the Museum was opened to commemorate her life as an American educator and her contributions to Black history.
The black story described freedom from slavery.

J. Hartford Montgomery’s gravestone is the oldest one in the cemetery found; he died on December 24, 1800.

There are five Jewish cemeteries, a Greek cemetery, and the grave of Confederate officers among the attractions.
Here you will also find the oldest “crepe myrtle” tree.
The fact that the cemetery does not appear to be kept appropriately contributes to the eerie atmosphere of the location.
Shattered stones, gates, and even some broken coffins gave the impression that someone had fled from the tombs.

Sacred Heart Cultural Center

Originally a Catholic church, the cultural center has been restored to host various public cultural events, including fairs, talks, and weddings.
It was erected as a Catholic church on December 02, 1900, for 70 years.
There is a near-term plan to demolish the historic church.
Fortunately, they were able to stop the destruction with the support of the Peter S. Knox family.
Much vandalism has occurred because the church has been empty for roughly 16 years.
The Sacred Heart Cultural Center opened in Augusta, Georgia in 1987 following a massive renovation and reconstruction.

Woodrow Wilson Boyhood Home

When Woodrow Wilson was a little boy, he lived in this house, built-in 1859.
Woodrow Wilson served as the 28th president of the United States and was a strong supporter of the League of Nations.
At one time, his father was a minister at Augusta’s First Presbyterian Church, and the home served as a Civil War-era military hospital for its patients.
Since its designation as a National Historic Landmark on October 6, 2008, the house has been owned and administered by Historic Augusta, Inc.
Two-story brick building with a five-bayfront façade, a pair of end chimneys on either end and a side gable roof.
A service building and a carriage house were constructed behind the house at approximately the same time and are likewise made of load-bearing brick.
Sidelight windows and a transom window adorn the entrance.
