Founded in 2009, the Bending Branch Winery was born not to be ordinary but to become the “Next World Wines.”

Owners Robert Young and his wife Brenda made sure they were extracting only the best quality grapes respective of their flavor and color to make the boldest red wines. After several attempts and up to seven years in the barrel, they have perfected Texas wines that have exceeded expectations.

If you’re downtown Comfort, it’ll take 10 minutes to drive to their Estate Winery and Tasting Room. You can stop by for a bottle of their finely-aged wines grown in California’s Sierra Foothills.

For a reasonable price, you can taste five of their best wines and take home a to-go souvenir wine glass. You can savor your drink in their Wine Club Lounge under shaded seating or open cabanas on their patio. You can picnic while having a nice view of their vineyard!

If you’re up for great antiquing in a small community like Comfort, Texas, the Comfort Antique Mall is for you.

This interesting shop in the “Antique Town” carries an extensive collection of unusual items like Chzeovalacia lamps with crystal prisms, “Gone with the Wind” globe lamps, and a German cast iron clock. In the scenic farm roads of Comfort resides Hill Country Pottery, a fine craft gallery and studio you didn’t know existed.

Their gallery, 10 minutes from downtown Comfort, features handcrafted pottery of artist Brian Burckhardt and local artisans. Their studio was previously a dilapidated old barn from West Texas and was rebuilt in Hill Country.

It’s a pretty rough drive on the single-lane, dirt-and-gravel road on your way to the pottery studio, but it is not hard at all to navigate. Other than that, you’ll have a rather pleasant scenic drive!

Upon arrival, you can watch handmade works of varying dinner and kitchenware and several home items. If you’re up for it, you can make one yourself! Hill Country Pottery offers pottery classes for small groups and private classes. Beginner classes can take around 2 hours, wherein you’ll learn insights from owner Brian himself.

As the other local artists did, you will use local and sustainable materials throughout the lesson. This includes rainwater for clay mixing, locally mixed clay, and local cedar ash.

Treue Der Union Monument

The Treue Der Union Monument is the oldest Civil War monument in Texas, comprising four-sided limestone obelisks with the names of 36 men killed in the Battle of the Nueces.
