The Malcolm Purvis Library was previously stationed in the Southwest County Annex in 1985. It was only several years later that the 6,900-square-foot library was permanently established in Magnolia, renamed to honor former Montgomery County Commissioner Malcolm Purvis.

Malcolm was an advocate of reading and education and a Magnolia ISD board of trustees member.

Up to this day, the Malcolm Purvis Library has kept up with its collection of books and learning resources despite the internet age. Although they are getting more and more checkouts, they have been “far from empty” since they were established in Magnolia in 1997.

In addition to their nearly 25,000 books and publications are e-readers and an online database, equating their collections to over 67,000 items.

These are, of course, carefully curated to suit the community’s interests and meet the needs of local readers.
