Choosing his destiny and all about the ways of life were taught by his ‘mama.’ When Forrest joins the army for service in Vietnam, he meets his new friends, Dan and Bubba. He wins medals, creates a shrimp fishing fleet, inspires people to jog, starts the ping pong craze, creates the smiley, writes bumper stickers and songs, donates to people, and is also able to meet the president several times. However, this is all irrelative to him because he only thinks about Jenny, his first love, and messed up her life. Although what he only wants is to prove that anyone can love anyone.

Famous quotes:

Forrest Gump: [running] I had run for 3 years, 2 months, 14 days, and 16 hours.

[he stops and turns around]

Young Man Running: Quiet, quiet! He’s gonna say something!

Forrest Gump: [pause] I’m pretty tired… I think I’ll go home now.

Jenny Curran: Do you ever dream, Forrest, about who you’re gonna be?

Forrest Gump: Who I’m gonna be?

Jenny Curran: Yeah.

Forrest Gump: Aren’t-aren’t I going to be me?

[repeated line]

Forrest Gump: Stupid is as stupid does.

Forrest Gump: You died on a Saturday morning. And I had you placed here under our tree. And I had that house of your father’s bulldozed to the ground. Momma always said dyin’ was a part of life. I sure wish it wasn’t. Little Forrest, he’s doing just fine. About to start school again soon. I make his breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. I make sure he combs his hair and brushes his teeth every day. Teaching him how to play ping-pong. He’s really good. We fish a lot. And every night, we read a book. He’s so smart, Jenny. You’d be so proud of him. I am. He, uh, wrote a letter, and he says I can’t read it. I’m not supposed to, so I’ll just leave it here for you. Jenny, I don’t know if Momma was right or if, if it’s Lieutenant Dan. I don’t know if we each have a destiny, or if we’re all just floating around accidental-like on a breeze, but I, I think maybe it’s both. Maybe both is happening at the same time. I miss you, Jenny. If there’s anything you need, I won’t be far away.

Jenny Curran: Were you scared in Vietnam?

Forrest Gump: Yes. Well, I-I don’t know. Sometimes it would stop raining long enough for the stars to come out… and then it was nice. It was like just before the sun goes to bed down on the bayou. There was always a million sparkles on the water… like that mountain lake. It was so clear, Jenny, it looked like there were two skies one on top of the other. And then in the desert, when the sun comes up, I couldn’t tell where heaven stopped and the earth began. It’s so beautiful.

Jenny Curran: I wish I could’ve been there with you.

Forrest Gump: You were.

That’s all I have to say about that.”

Main Plot: National Lampoon’s Vacation is a comedy adventure movie about a family and their extreme vacation experience. Griswold’s family was planning to go on a cross-country vacation. Having it all planned until the last detail, Clark Griswold and his supportive wife Ellen take their two teenagers, Rusty and Audrey, on vacation. They plan to go from the suburbs of Chicago to sunny California’s Walley World amusement park. But the planned vacation was never easy to achieve when many unnecessary things happened along the way. On the first day, during gas filling, he couldn’t find the gas tank opening and accidentally tore off the wagon plate and ended up searching for it. Later that day, they got lost after crossing the Mississippi River into the city. While driving late at night on the interstate west of St. Louis, everyone fell asleep, including Clark, which caused them to exit the road and roar through the residential area that crashed most of their yards. They ended up in a motel that night. They continued traveling and faced a lot of trouble along the way.

Famous quotes:

Clark Griswald: I think you’re all fucked in the head. We’re ten hours from the fucking fun park and you want to bail out. Well I’ll tell you something. This is no longer a vacation. It’s a quest. Rusty Griswold: [Grabs Clark’s shoulder] Dad, you want an aspirin?

Clark Griswald: Don’t touch!

[Delivering the eulogy for Aunt Edna, flatly]

Clark Griswald: O God, ease our suffering in this, our moment of great dispair. Yea, admit this good and decent woman into thine arms in the flock in thine heavenly area, up there. And Moab, he laid its down by the band of the Canaanites, and yea, though the Hindus speak of karma, I implore you: give her… give her a break.

Ellen Griswold: Clark… Clark… This is a serious matter. I’ll do it myself.

Clark Griswald: Honey, I’m not an ordained minister; I’m doing my best, OK?

Rusty Griswold: Wow dad, we must have jumped that rail by like 50 yards.

Clark Griswald: Nothing to be proud of Russ…

[pauses as Rusty walks away]

Clark Griswald: [proudly] ... 50 yards…

Cousin Vicki: I’m going steady, and I French kiss.

Audrey Griswold: So? Everybody does that.

Cousin Vicki: Yeah, but Daddy says I’m the best at it.

Rusty Griswold: Is that a real gun, Mom?

Ellen Griswold: I don’t know, Rusty, but when this is all over, your father… may be going away for a little while.

Fun Fact about National Lampoon’s Vacation

  • All the cast members had terrible experiences when it came to filming the scenes inside Walley World, where they rode all the roller coasters and other rides. In the commentary, Chevy Chase mentions that many rides made him and the other cast members vomit, especially since they all had to ride them several times for each take. Dana Barron mentioned in the commentary that the coasters made her so sick she had to take motion sickness pills and would pass out on nearby benches between takes. Finally, Anthony Michael Hall mentions that in the shots on the roller coaster, where he looks scared, he isn’t acting. His fear in those shots was genuine.

He tried to commit suicide after her boyfriend rejected him, and his great enemy managed to own and become famous in the field of Proust. Sheryl’s husband, Richard, is a motivational speaker who’s stressed about his book launch. Her son Dwayne, Olive’s brother, is into Nietzsche and has never said a word in 9 months, and her grandpa, Edwin Hoover is now in an institution for elders. After her family heard about the pageant, they supported her all the way to reach her dream, even though the whole family struggled to get there on time.

Dwayne: You know what? Fuck beauty contests. Life is one fucking beauty contest after another. School, then college, then work… Fuck that. And fuck the Air Force Academy. If I want to fly, I’ll find a way to fly. You do what you love, and fuck the rest.

Grandpa: A real loser is someone who’s so afraid of not winning he doesn’t even try.

Dwayne: I wish I could just sleep until I was eighteen and skip all this crap-high school and everything-just skip it.

Frank: Do you know who Marcel Proust is?

Dwayne: He’s the guy you teach.

Frank: Yeah. French writer. Total loser. Never had a real job. Unrequited love affairs. Gay. Spent 20 years writing a book almost no one reads. But he’s also probably the greatest writer since Shakespeare. Anyway, he uh… he gets down to the end of his life, and he looks back and decides that all those years he suffered, Those were the best years of his life, ’cause they made him who he was. All those years he was happy? You know, total waste. Didn’t learn a thing. So, if you sleep until you’re 18… Ah, think of the suffering you’re gonna miss. I mean high school? High school-those are your prime suffering years. You don’t get better suffering than that.

Dwayne: [while Sheryl is crying he writes this on a piece of paper to Olive] Go Hug Mom

Olive: I’d like to dedicate this to my grandpa, who showed me these moves.

Pageant MC: Aww, that is so sweet.

[Audience applauds]

Pageant MC: Is he here? Where’s your grandpa right now?

Olive: In the trunk of our car.
