Ant Atoll

Ant Atoll is one of the best places to go in Federated States of Micronesia

You’ll never forget your time at Ant Atoll!

In reality, Micronesia has many atolls, each of which has a beautiful coral reef.

And while many of them are hot tourist attractions, the Ant Atoll remains on top of the list.

Ant Atoll is situated approximately 20 miles southwest of Kolonia, the capital of Pohnpei.

Ant Atoll is a little-known gem in the Pacific, a heart-shaped reef connecting the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) islands.

You’ll find some of the world’s clearest, crystal-clear water on this atoll.

Coral reef atolls such as this provide a haven for wildlife in Micronesia’s dwindling ecosystem.

And it’s not just tourists who flock here to dive or snorkel; it’s also home to numerous seabird settlers, including black noddies.

Ant Atoll was named a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, which means that this is a natural area.

Try to include as many islands as possible, but don’t miss Ant Atoll!

Chuuk Lagoon has something for everyone, whether you’re looking for a quick dive or an opportunity to learn about WWII history.

The warm, tropical waters of Chuuk Lagoon, also called Truk Lagoon, make it a great place for wreck divers.

Also, they are a safe haven for many marine species that have lived there for at least 60 years.

It has a total length of 1,800 kilometers, of which 225 kilometers are protected by a coral reef.

A World War II battleship is also found in Chuuk Lagoon’s shallow waters.

Chuuk Lagoon’s Japanese war cemeteries include every ship that has ever sailed into its depths.

You are welcome to go wreck diving if that is how you like to learn about new places.

Those not interested in diving can still experience the island’s WWII history, spread throughout.

The abundance of coral on the wrecks necessitates underwater photography, which is a must in this area.

There is a lot of history beneath Chuuk Lagoon that you can discover!

Japanese Zeros

Seeing the Zeros is an absolute must while visiting Yap for those interested in military history.

Japanese Zeros will transport you backward in history. Between 1914 and 1945, when the Japanese had control of the Micronesian islands, strips were put together on all of them.

The airstrip, which once housed Japanese Zeros, is now deserted, but what lies around it is intriguing.

An old airport now houses the wreckage of two aircraft, serving as a poignant reminder of an important time in the country’s history.

If you’re now curious, you can opt to explore the Japanese Zeros on your own if you’d prefer.

However, if you want to truly understand the history of the place, a guided tour is the best way to do so.

When you’re in Micronesia, don’t miss the Japanese Zeros!

The Kepirohi Waterfall, one of Micronesia’s more well-known waterfalls, is the place to go!

There are few natural wonders as breathtaking as waterfalls, which are both majestic and peaceful at the same time.

Kepirohi Waterfall in Kepirohi Kousapw is nestled on the lower Mand Stream.

It is a hidden treasure and a stunningly beautiful waterfall and has become a well-known tourist attraction.

There is a natural pool beneath the waterfall at Kepirohi Waterfall, which is a stunning sight to behold in person.

The Kepirohi Falls are a 66-foot-high and 98-foot-wide avalanche of massive, square-shaped basalt boulders.

You can take a refreshing dip in the lagoon below and escape the hot weather.

The view is stunning, and the location is ideal for cooling off in the water or simply relaxing on the shore.

The Kepirohi Waterfall’s site on the island near Palikir hotels is ideal. This fall’s trip is also part of Nan Madol’s itinerary.

Lelu Islands

Lelu Islands, Federated States of Micronesia
Lelu Islands is one of the best places to go in Federated States of Micronesia

Prepare to discover this secluded island in Kosrae’s Lelu municipality!

The Kosraean royal family built a massive walled city on Lelu Island between the 13th and 14th centuries.

Plenty of Lelu’s antiquity homes and gravesites are obscured by dense tropical vegetation, but a few larger structures can still be seen.

A blue hole adjacent to the Lelu Causeway, where today’s swimming pier is sited, was used to dispose of the remains of the deceased after they had decomposed in the crypts.

There isn’t much to see at the ruins themselves. On the other hand, a guide can help explain many of the ruins’ mysteries and enigmas.

One disadvantage of visiting here is that there is no way to find your way around without the help of a local guide.

As a bonus, the Lelu Islands have several enigmatic ruins that are well worth a gander.

Liduduhniap Falls

That Micronesia is far away geographically means that there aren’t many tourists.

However, they have no idea that there are a number of stunning sights to behold in this area.

Elevated average rainfall has resulted in several scenic waterfalls on the island.

One of the region’s best-kept secrets, this double waterfall is snuggled in a dense jungle environment across from Kolonia.

The Liduduhniap Falls is one of Pohnpei’s most famous natural attractions, and this one does not displease.

As the most accessible waterfall in Pohnpei, which requires no trekking, the tiered “horse-tail” drops are widely regarded as the best option.

Liduduhniap Falls and the Nanpil River have upper and lower levels, making them popular swimming destinations.

To top it all off, Liduduhniap Falls offers a space where you can relax or picnic in a natural forest, which sounds fun!

Surely it’s time for you to spot this extraordinary waterfall that Micronesia is proud of!

Mt. Pwusehn Malek

Mt. Pwusehn Malek, Federated States of Micronesia
Mt. Pwusehn Malek is one of the best places to go in Federated States of Micronesia

You get the best vistas when you’ve made the most effort.

Pwusehn Malek is a small mountain dotted with tropical vegetation and volcanic peaks.

Per folklore, a mystical rooster’s droppings are said to be responsible for the creation, which is why the formation is known as “chicken shit.”

Aside from that, Pwisehn Malek is where archaeologists think rocks were cut to make Nan Madol, based on what they have found.

The hill, mostly partially visible, has a few dispersed trees, but the scenery is phenomenal.

It’s a well-known fact among travelers that reaching the summit is no easy feat.

Since volcanic coatings are slippery, you’ll have to navigate slender valleys.

Since climbing is risky, Mt. Pwusehn Malek is considered magnificent from a distance.

Still, the view from the top is great, and if you’re brave and sure of yourself, you might want to take on the challenge.

Nan Madol

Take a look at Nan Madol, built more than 2,000 years ago!

Nan Madol has been designated as a National Historic Landmark. It’s on Temwen Island, to be precise.

Located on a beautiful lagoon, the city has a maze of canals connecting dozens of man-made islets.

To date, it is the only old city constructed on a coral reef.

Neither the locals nor the visitors to Pohnpei have a clue as to how or why the island’s first residents erected Nan Madol.

Remarkably, Nan Madol’s stone and column weight are so great that no one knows how it was put together.

Local lore claims, however, that the stones used for the development of Nan Madol were transported by black magic.

In the Pacific, Nan Madol is a jewel few people know about.

In addition, it served as a royal gathering place and a burial ground for the king and queen.

Nefo Cave

Nefo Cave, Federated States of Micronesia
Nefo Cave is one of the best places to go in Federated States of Micronesia

Micronesia has a long and distinguished history.

In Nefo Cave, a contingent of soldiers stationed at the north entryway made their homes.

An excursion to Nefo Cave, a naturally heavily guarded cave that serves as a somber reminder of the area’s turbulent history of conflict.

You may be surprised to learn that the Nefo Caves were once used by the Japanese military to keep an eye on the northern entry towards the Federated States of Micronesia.

Numerous caves can be walked through.

But in terms of size, the Nefo cave is approximately 10 feet in diameter by 6 feet above the ground and 78 feet in length.

From here, visitors can see a Japanese soldier’s gun used to secure the north pass’s entrance.

Other artifacts are scattered around the grounds, some of which have been weathered over the decades.

Aren’t you curious now? If so, don’t miss the Nefo Cave!

Stone money that you won’t find anywhere else is waiting for you!

There’s no better place to find Stone Money than on Yap Island, a Caroline Island group.

Yapese still utilize stone money, which is an ancient form of payment. But to determine the value of stone money, one must consider the piece’s story.

Rai Stones are enormous carved disks with doughnut-like shapes. They tend to be made of calcite.

They are probably the biggest and heaviest in the world and are used to paying taxes on land and property.

Yes, exactly what you’ve just read. There are still people on Yap Island who use Rai Stones.

But for the most part, they’re only used for special occasions like weddings or when someone does a great job.

Approximately 6,000 big rai stones remain on the island today, some of which can be seen in museums worldwide.

You can discover more about the stone’s past and current use by visiting one of the area’s world’s most renowned stone money banks.

On the other hand, solar lights have been put up all over the island to give more light, especially at night.

Standing proudly across the lagoon from Kolonia is the impressive rock called “Sokehs Rock.”

The Japanese military built some buildings here during World War II, but they have been sitting in the jungle since then.

Micronesia’s famous Sokehs Rock, which is 190 meters tall, is still a big challenge for hikers who love some adventure.

In fact, the hike to Sokehs Rock is strenuous and requires some climbing as well as a steady ascent. It is risky and should only be tried in clear, dry seasons.

But, this place is worth a visit just for the view. You can’t beat the scenery.

This rock will soon be a popular place for hiking, and people will need local guides to tell people about its history.

Make sure that you bring enough water for the journey. Go to Sokehs Rock if you’re in the mood for a real test of your mettle!

Tamilyog Trail

Tamilyog Trail, Federated States of Micronesia
Tamilyog Trail is one of the best places to go in Federated States of Micronesia

The Tamilyog Trail may sound like a walking trail, but it has a long history.

The Tamilyog Trail acts as the main crosswalk route connecting the western city of Weloy with the capital of Colonia.

From start to finish, you’ll cover about four miles on foot as you meander through the forest and cross the island from east to west along stone paths.

As easy as it may seem, the trail has a few challenging sections and isn’t recommended for beginners.

Exquisite paths wind through the neighborhood and are regularly cleaned as part of the community’s month-to-month tidy-up.

Walking this route will allow you to see some World War II artifacts that also show a fascinating history of this area and the conflict itself.

The Blue Hole

The Blue Hole, Federated States of Micronesia
The Blue Hole is one of the best places to go in Federated States of Micronesia

Scuba diving in Kosrae, Micronesia’s secret treasure, is well known. Still, it’s also a must-do if you’re in the area.

Scuba divers of all abilities will enjoy the tranquil waters of the Blue Hole.

You may spend more than an hour snorkeling around the entire perimeter of the big, deep, spherical hole in the sandy and eelgrass flats ringed by coral.

At one point, royal families were laid to rest in the blue pit.

Following their burial in a neighboring ruined city, the remains of the ancestors of Kosrae’s monarchs were strewn throughout the Blue Hole’s frigid depths.

However, the Blue Hole’s splendor is now accessible to the general public.

The reef is home to a large number of fish, as well as sting rays and other creatures that emerge during high tide.

Please remember that the Blue Hole is such an important part of Kosrae’s ecosystem that visitors are asked to tread lightly on the corals and avoid touching them whenever possible.

Furthermore, you can even paddle around the entire island if you’re feeling particularly daring.

Have fun exploring the scenic look of the Blue Hole in Micronesia while you’re there.

Utwe-Walung Marine Park is one of the best places to go in Federated States of Micronesia

This is the destination in Micronesia, where you might go on various exciting expeditions to learn about the amazing natural world it has to offer!

One of the most important places for preserving the natural environment can be found at the Marine Park in the Kosrae area.

Madison Nela came up with the idea for the reserve to protect the area’s biodiversity from constructing a tourist complex, and he is commended for this.

In fact, the park’s name is derived from the two hamlets it borders, Utwe and Walung. Meet Walung and Utwe, please!

The Utwe-Walung Marine Park in Micronesia isn’t a prime location for no reason.

At this nature reserve, tourists can see some of Micronesia’s oldest and possibly most diverse mangrove swamps.

Not to mention a slew of small islets, mangrove tributaries, subaerial caverns, and lagoons.

Rare tree species such as the Sonartia Alba and Nypa Fruitcians have been planted in the nature reserve because of their rarity and aesthetic value. Those are a must-see!

And, of course, don’t overlook the hordes of marine life underneath the ocean’s surface for an experience you’ll remember for a long time.

In fact, this is Yap’s sole “art gallery,” one of the few places where visitors can purchase original works of art.

What distinguishes it from others?

As was previously mentioned, the works on display here were created by Micronesian artists, so it’s worth stopping by this studio gallery to see what they’ve come up with.

Yap carvers are influenced by a wide range of factors. They’re inspired by folklore, real-life experiences, and much more.

Yela Valley Ka Forest

Yela Valley Ka Forest, Federated States of Micronesia
Yela Valley Ka Forest is one of the best places to go in Federated States of Micronesia

Are you curious about the “Ka” in Yela Valley Ka Forest? Continue reading!

Ka trees are protected in the Yela Valley in the Federated States of Micronesia’s Yela Ka Forest, situated on the atoll of Kasrae.

Ka trees, which are enormous hollow trees used by the locals to build kayaks, are fascinating.

To make things more interesting, here’s a fun fact: Ka trees, which are now extinct in other places, can only be found in this one forest in the world.

Terminalia Carolinesis, or simply “ka trees,” is a colloquial name for these trees.

Instead of the binomial name, you might use the less difficult-to-say version, ‘Ka.’ They have mossy buttressed bases and are shaped like an umbrella.

Conservation easements have also been granted on 78 acres, making this valley one of the first to be protected outside the Americas.

There is now a trust fund set up by the landowners, the government, and conservation organizations to conserve the land in Kosrae.

The Mariana fruit bat and the Micronesian pigeon also rely on this amazingly maintained forest for their survival.

Tourists that visit Kosrae frequently take part in this experience and trip. As far as Kosrae attractions go, this has to be one of them.

The Yale Valley Ka woodland is a must-visit stopover for those who enjoy the outdoors.

The Ka trees await your exploration.
