Beardsley Zoo
The only zoo in Connecticut is the Beardsley Zoo, home to North and South American species.
This long-running zoo in Bridgeport, Connecticut, supports over 300 animals, many threatened species among them. The endangered Siberian tiger, Red Wolf, Ocelot and Golden Lion Tamarin are in that group.
As a non-profit organization, the small zoo works on wildlife preservation, especially of the fragile species. It holds enough space to house the animals and give them habitats they do well in.

Discovery Museum and Planetarium

Downtown Cabaret Theatre
Catch original shows, award-winning concerts and serious entertainment at the cabaret in downtown Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Fayerweather Island Light
Visit the refurbished Fayerweather Island Light that “withstood the storm of ages.”
This lighthouse on the south end of Fayerweather Island sits on a property at Seaside Park in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Unlike other navigational lighthouses, it does not officially aid navigation, but it is lit by a system of lighting and solar panels.
It did guide navigators from 1823 to 1932.
Also known as the “Black Rock Harbor,” the 47-foot tower has come through rough centuries. Its station was established in 1808, and it was only in 2000 that it was restored and relit.
Today, plenty of people walk the path to the lighthouse and take the sight from there. You will have to drive to Seaside Park at the end of Barnum Boulevard to reach the tower by the breakwater. You can park there and walk the rocky trail, or take the sight from a distance while picnicking by the beach.
Check out the rocks on the property, which date back centuries, and the seashore with its shells.
With Fayerweather Island Light’s history of vandalism, the graffiti paintings on the rocks are not what you want to see. But they leave their own mark on visitors, along with the carved names dating from the late 1960s and early 1970s.
If you visit during fall, the area can get marshy, so watch the soggy patches. Hope for good weather and the day runs well.

Housatonic Museum of Art
University art collections run their own way and get less attention than they have earned. As home to premier college art collections, the Housatonic Museum of Art opens that door to students and to the community.
Its collection holds work you will not see elsewhere in the state, running from ancient to contemporary art. These exhibits are permanent displays at a 300,000-square-foot facility on the Housatonic Community College campus.
You will find one of the significant collections in the region inside this two-year college, and nothing else nearby compares to it. If you like original art and artifacts in front of you daily, this is the place.
And if you want something new, the museum also runs art lectures and programs. Wherever you are on campus, expect serious art on the walls and in the corridors.

Saint Mary’s by the Sea

St. Margaret Shrine
