Feed your curiosity about Galeran history at this famous historical destination in Galera.

An Argaric settlement site known as Castellón Alto may be found in the province of Granada, Spain, close to the contemporary town of Galera. It is situated on a rugged spur on the river banks of Castillejar.

It is believed that between 80 and 100 people lived in the El Argar civilization during the late phase of the Bronze Age, which occurred between 1900 and 1600 BC. This culture left its mark on the municipality of Castellón Alto.

Today, it has been partially rebuilt, and guided tours give visitors the chance to learn what life was like in a farming village in 3,500 BC. Most of the site has been well taken care of, and archaeologists have learned much about the Argar culture from what they found there.

This is the location where the original remnants of the “Mummy of Galera,” which were found in 2002 inside tomb 121, can be viewed by visitors.

It is divided up into 3 rooms: two devoted solely to local archaeology, in which objects that actually belonged to nearly all periods of history and development in this area are exhibited and preserved, and through which you can walk through more than 4,000 years of the town’s history.

An examination of the transformation of the environment over the past 4,000 years is on display on the museum’s first floor. This floor is devoted explicitly to the Bronze Age and the Copper Age. On display are examples of ceramics and weapons, as well as tools for doing everyday tasks.

The (Late) Bronze Age, the Iberian Culture, Roman and Medieval eras, and a Numismatics Section with Iberian coins, Roman or medieval coins, are all featured on the museum’s ground floor.

The Tutugi Iberian Necropolis in Galera has the most important and impressive Iberian artifacts ever found in Spain.

Since 1920, archaeologists have been aware of the necropolis and its significance.

The Tutugi Iberian Necropolis comprises a collection of tombs, the majority of which are monumental in size.
