Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation

The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation was founded to aid the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter and its goals.

The Shelter, the only open-admission facility in the county, offers protective custody, deals with abuse cases, takes in surrendered and stray animals, and even takes on the care of abused and neglected farm animals.

The most vulnerable animals in the county are the primary focus of the shelter staff’s care and crisis intervention efforts. Unlike private rescue groups, the shelter lacks the fundraising staffing and financial means to organize elaborate fundraising activities.

The Foundation’s mission is to step in and close that gap. To offer program stability and the extension of effective preventive outreach, they want to ensure that the shelter will have a consistent source of private support.

    BirchBark Foundation

A long-standing goal of theirs is to establish the BirchBark Foundation. They consider how fortunate they are to work in a community with many animal lovers.

They reflect on the amazing examples of the human-animal link they’ve witnessed while practicing veterinary medicine on the Central Coast for decades. Seeing people give up on a saveable pet due to a financial barrier is one of the most difficult aspects of their job.

The idea behind BirchBark was to assist those people in maintaining their wonderful pet-human relationships by assisting in the removal of the financial barrier, in whole or in part. They also provide data to empower people to be their best caregivers and health advocates.

    Four Paws to Love

FPL is an all-volunteer non-profit 501(c)(3) animal rescue organization. They aim to prevent unnecessary euthanasia by saving homeless and vulnerable animals from overcrowded shelters. They respect the link between people and animals and the significant part pets play in their daily lives.

Their mission is to assist animals and those whose lives are significantly improved by adopting animals in need. Four Paws to Love is run by volunteers who kindly donate their time, homes, and hearts to save lives.

Animals have a secure, comfortable place to live thanks to their foster care program until they can find loving homes. To limit the number of stray animals, they ensure that all of the animals they rescue are spayed or neutered, and they educate the public about the value of doing so.

    Canham Farm Horse Rescue Inc.

They work to help as many horses as possible. Whether they are neglected animals, rehabilitated ponies, animals abandoned by their owners, animals destined for slaughter in Canada or Mexico, or undesired wild horses.

Canham Farm Horse Rescue is a horse rescue, training, and educational facility dedicated to helping all horses in need, focusing on wild horse rescue and advocacy.

Their ideal world is where all horses are treated with dignity, compassion, and understanding. Since they have limited space, they want to assist as many horses as possible.

They aim to raise welfare standards and end equine suffering through collaboration with rescue animals, horse owners, communities, organizations, and governments. In addition to working with abandoned, abused, and neglected horses, they strive to educate horse owners and offer to retrain when necessary.

    Eeyore’s Hen Harbor

When it comes to domesticated hens and ducks that have been left behind or are otherwise undesirable, Eeyore’s Hen Harbor fills a void in the rescue community. They also offer many (otherwise unadoptable) old and special needs birds a permanent shelter.

The bigger objective of their rescue activity is to redefine their feathered friends as companions rather than commodities. They primarily concentrate on roosters and ex-egg-farm hens that would otherwise be murdered or left in the wild. The entire operation is a non-profit enterprise. EYH will never allow a bird to be sold. “They’ll sell you the bird for a buck,” they say, “or you can keep it for the rest of your life as your pet.”

The goal is not to reduce the number of rescued birds to zero but to create a thriving and well-cared-for population. Most of the heirloom breeds were saved either because the egg farm was closed or because they were unwanted by their egg lover.

    Kitten Cattitude Rescue

A 501c3 non-profit cat and kitten rescue and adoption organization, Kitten Cattitude Rescue focuses on rescuing newborns and cats with special needs. They are 100% volunteer and supported only by private donations.

They gradually return to “normal” and store supplies in preparation for kitten season. Due to Covid regulations, they are still momentarily closed for adoption. If you have any questions, kindly contact or text them.

Additionally, because their foster homes are “laps of luxury,” their kittens can overcome their initial concerns, feel at ease, and exhibit their true personalities. Some people even like displaying their wicked sides and letting their “cattitude” do the talking.

    One Planet Rescue

At One Planet Rescue, they provide urgent care for special needs and injured dogs and cats. They are careful to completely vaccinate and spay/neuter these dogs and cats before transporting them as part of their rescue because many originate from other countries.

When rescuing abroad, they always commence each case with the need for a foster to adopt, even if they would never reject a local issue. If the prospective adoptive family is not a good match for the rescue, the rescue will be sent back to a One Planet Rescue foster home. This protocol is in place to make sure.

One Planet Rescue does not have a physical location; instead, they can rescue dogs and cats worldwide thanks to private donations. Additionally, because they only deal with foster families, donations can be used to pay for the various expenses directly related to the well-being of the animals.
