Join the pilgrims from all corners of the globe to pay their respects at the burial site of the Prophet Muhammad.

Madinah is home to the second holiest mosque in Islam and brings thousands of Muslims worldwide each year to pray at Masjid An Nabawi.

One of the mosque’s most distinctive characteristics is the green dome that sits atop the central chamber, which houses the burial of Prophet Muhammad.

The mosque has been expanded numerous times over the years to suit the increasing number of worshipers.

In 622 AD, shortly after moving to Madinah, Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) commissioned the construction of what is now the second-largest mosque in Islam, after Masjid al-Haram.

Apart from that, it’s where Abu Bakar, the Prophet’s best friend, and closest companion, is buried.

Rawdhas, also known as burial grounds, may be found to the southeast of the Masjid. These are the final resting sites of some of the Prophet Muhammad’s relatives and associates (SAWS).

This particular location, known as Jannat al-Baqi, was established in the seventh century and is Madinah’s first and oldest Islamic cemetery.

Participate in the pilgrims’ journey as they visit this sacred mosque in the world.

Dhul Hulaifah Miqat Mosque is one of the best places to go in Medina, Saudi Arabia

Find out what sets this mosque apart from the rest of the mosques in the area.

The Dhul-Halifa Miqat Mosque is also known as the “Shigarh Mosque” and the “Abyar Ali Mosque.”

According to tradition, this square-shaped structure, which covers an area of 6000 square meters, was the last spot Prophet Muhammad visited before doing the Umrah after signing a peace pact.

There’s nothing quite like the 62-meter-tall minaret of Al-Hudaybiya, one of the city’s most important archaeological and historical landmarks, to make it stand out.

The mosque has two independent galleries, divided by a yard.

Long arches and long domes form the shape of these galleries.

The mosque’s minaret has a square base and a round top, making it distinct from other mosques in the neighborhood.

A large central park next to the mosque has plenty of trees and vegetation.

You can wash and change into your ihrams in a separate area for pilgrims. The mosque is next to a highway, making it easy for pilgrims to get there.

Jannatul Baqi (Baqi Cemetery) is one of the best places to go in Medina, Saudi Arabia

Retrace the history of Medina in the final resting place of their Prophet’s family and companions.

Jannatul Baqi, the city’s original cemetery, may be found to the southeast of the Prophet’s Mosque.

It’s also known as Baqi al-Gharqad, and it’s an important Islamic site in the Hejazi region.

Many of Muhammad’s (PBUH) closest friends and family are buried in this cemetery. This city’s greatest cemetery, known as the Garden of Heaven, is home to at least 10,000 tombs of the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) closest companions and family.

This cemetery covers an area of 175,000 square meters.

The largest cemetery in Madinah, Jannatul Baqi, is located near the Masjid Nabawi mosque.

At least 10,000 of the Prophet Muhammad’s followers are said to be buried there.

Unfortunately, their graves are unmarked, so it is hard to identify them now.

It has three entrances: one on the north side, one on the east, and one on the west side, which is the primary entry.

Aside from graveside services, this is the entrance that guests use.

A piece devoted to the area for kids’ playgrounds, with an area for horse or camel riding and an area for farms and orchards where palm trees spread as far as the eye can see.

It is bordered by Prince Nayef’s plan, the Shibiyah plan, and land affiliated with the Water and Sewage Department of Madinah.

Between the protection of the site’s natural features and the protection of the site’s properties, there is a delicate balance to be struck here.

Make a pilgrimage to the mosques where the respected Prophet Muhammad once prayed.

When Muhammad was in his final four years of life, he is said to have held Eid prayers at this location.

Salatul-Istasqa is also said to have been offered at this time when Medina was suffering from a severe lack of rain.

This gave the mosque the name “Ghamamah,” which translates to “cloud” in Arabic.

According to certain historians, the Prophet Muhammad is said to have offered the burial prayer for Emperor Najashi of Aksum, Ethiopia, at this location.

The mosque, 500 meters west of Masjid An-Nabawi, has been closed for daily prayers for some time now.

The prayer area is separated from the entrance door by a partition that is in the form of a rectangular wall and divides the mosque into two distinct sections.

Palm trees surround the mosque’s facade, making it look like an oasis.

After a recent renovation, the mosque retains much of its Ottoman-era appearance.

Do not overlook the opportunity to look into this mosque, which is an ideal location for pilgrims with an interesting history!

Masjid Al Qiblatayn

Masjid Al Qiblatayn, Medina, Saudi Arabia
Masjid Al Qiblatayn is one of the best places to go in Medina, Saudi Arabia

Make your way to one of Islam’s most revered mosques!

The Masjid Al Qiblatayn was built by Sawad ibn Ghanam ibn Ka’ab in 623 CE.

A few mosques in the world have two mihrabs at Masjid Al Qiblatayn (a niche to indicate the Qibla).

The original Mihrab, which faced Jerusalem, was removed during a major mosque renovation in 1987.

There is now just one Mihrab in the mosque, which faces the Kaaba. However, the orientation of Jerusalem may be seen in the ceiling architecture.

Chandeliers dangling from the ceiling and a Mihrab that looks like a big prayer mat decorate the mosque’s main prayer hall.

For the Imam, Muezzin, and caretaker, a block west of the main structure serves as their residence.

Worshippers’ ablutions are on the sub-basement level toward the southeast corner.

Many Muslims worldwide visit this historic mosque and other neighboring sights, like Jannatul Baqi, Masjid Quba, and Mount Uhud-Archers’ Hill, every year.

Design-wise, this is one of the prominent mosques. A well-maintained mosque that will surely catch your eyes when you visit it!

Spend some time in the most sacred mosque that Muslims can visit anywhere in the world.

The oldest mosque in Saudi Arabia is the Quba’ Masjid (also known as Masjid al-Quba), located outside Madinah.

The first stones were laid by the Prophet Muhammad (saw) on his journey from Mecca to Madinah, and his followers completed the mosques.

After his migration, Muhammad stayed at this mosque for over 20 nights, performing qasr (a brief prayer) as he awaited Ali, whose home was just behind the mosque.

In 1986, the Quba mosque had its most recent renovation. The renovated mosque contains a second-floor prayer hall that links to many residential libraries, offices, and stores.

As a perimeter, it has seven main entrances and twelve minor ones, each of which has four parallel minarets and 56 small domes.

Black, red, and white marble are used to build the courtyard.

The minbar and mihrab are made of white marble. The square bases of the minarets are topped with octagonal shafts, which come together to form a circle at the summit.

Pay a visit to the mosque because you never know what kind of spiritual experience you might have!

Overlooking the Saudi Arabian city of Madinah, Mount Uhud, once known as Anqad, has a commanding vantage point.

Mount Uhud is one of the largest mountains in the world and is known for its Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) prophecies, which he and his companions ascended together.

Numerous iron-and copper-bearing caves dot the landscape, as do plateaus.

In addition to Mount Uhud, the area is surrounded by a variety of flora and trees, including Acacia Ehrenbergiana, Echinops Spinosissimus, Matrimony Vine, Luz Al-Nabi, and Sidr.

The Prophetic Compartment, also known as the Rawdah and Sacred Prophetic Chamber, is a popular tourist attraction in Madinah. The Prophet’s Mosque’s southeast corner houses the world’s most revered grave.

After Umar ibn Al-Khattab refurbished the Prophet’s Mosque in 638, the fronds of the mosque were replaced with a wall, which lasted for centuries.

The Prophet is buried in the Sacred Chamber beside Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq and Umar ibn Al-Khattab, two of his most loyal followers and the first two caliphs of Islam.

Six doorways lead into the Sacred Chamber, which is enclosed by gold, green copper, and iron fences.

The chamber’s east and west sides are 15 meters long, while the chamber’s north and south sides are 16 meters long.

In memory of Umar, Aisha set up a partition to divide the area where she lived from the burials, which she did in the northern section of the chamber.

The Ethiq Well and Garden is one of the best places to go in Medina, Saudi Arabia

Be amazed by this important place with the locals that have been a big part of their history!

The people of Madinah greeted the Prophet and his companions with open arms when they arrived from Makkah following a period of intense persecution.

The entire city erupted in pleasure when the Prophet arrived, and a chorus of singing and dancing welcomed him.

People from the Al-Aws and Khazraj tribes, among others, gathered at this well to welcome Prophet Muhammad and his entourage.

The Shade Garden, where the Prophet Muhammad and Abu Bakr al-Siddiq rested, is located near the Ethiq Well.

It was heating up under the blazing rays of the sun.

It was Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq’s intention to protect the Prophet Muhammad and to let the people of Madinah know that they were at a place where Allah’s messenger was in residence.

Upon meeting the Prophet Muhammad, the people of Madinah were pleased, bringing him water and several welcome gifts.

The Seven Mosques

The Seven Mosques, Medina, Saudi Arabia
The Seven Mosques, Medina, Saudi Arabia / Richard Mortel / Flickr

Not one, not two, but seven mosques in one location!

The Seven Mosques are a group of medieval mosques that can also be referred to as the Saba Masjid (Saba Masajid).

They are situated on the western slope of the Sala’ Mountain in the Blessed City of Medina.

The term “Saba” comes from the Arabic word for seven, and the initial group consisted of seven mosques. However, there are currently six mosques within the complex.

Muslims defended Medina during Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) lifetime by digging a trench to protect it from the Quraysh.

As a result of this, the area around these mosques has significant religious and historical significance for Muslims.

The Battle of Trench connects to each of the six mosques in the area.

The main mosque in the complex, the Al Fath Mosque, is called after ‘Fatah,’ or victory in the Battle of Trench, which is why it is the first mosque in the complex.

With their modest proportions, interesting designs, and varied architecture, these mosques are a great addition to any travel plan!
